i should have been a florist...a dutch florist.
spring my ass.
its 23 degrees. i have dutch tulips in three different colors out in the yard, and i know they like cold weather, but i'm worried the intense cold will eat them. they survived the snow okay. they've not developed a bloom yet anyway, and i expect they wont until mid april. i just hope they bloom period. i got three stargazer lily bulbs to put in pots (so i can take them with me on the off chance i find a suitable new house), and i cannot wait for them to bloom. the smell they give off is just amazing. very rarely do the floral shops around here have these bouquets for sale. This year, i had my pink phalaenopsis orchid bloom already. it was eager, and healthy and beautiful. I'm impressed with myself! my paphiopedilum delenatii is going to bloom soon, it has not one, but two stems springing from it! sadly, the more exotic brassidium with leopard spots doesnt seem to be growing a stem. but maybe later! it has a different root texture and grows in "lava rock" with a more exposed root (its harder to retain water than the ones in moss). i also have some minature roses and a plumeria plant chad bought for me. i have a harder time keeping these things healthy than i do the orchids, oddly enough.
i used to have a giant pink hibiscus. well, i still do, but it has not flowered in years :(. also in the past friends category is a plant named "JIM". it was a queen of the night and had these huge blooms the bloomed in the middle of the night. my mom killed it, as she does most things (the plant, my pet holland lop Schmiddy, my drive and soul).
i hope this year i get to have tons and tons of flowers at my new house (yeah... sure.) and maybe some time to meditate amongst them, or at least stop and enjoy them a while.
